AALUSC, formerly known as African Ancestral Lesbians United for Societal Change was founded in 1974 as Salsa Soul Sisters, Third World Wimmin Inc. Known as one of, if not the first lesbian organization created by and for women of color, the group was born out the need for an inclusive space for lesbian women of color to discuss the problems and concerns they face due to their sex and color.
