The Volunteer Lawyer Project’s dual mission is to:
(1) provide quality free civil legal services for low income people and smaller not for profit groups; and
(2) to effectively involve volunteers in the delivery of those services.

NCLR is a non-profit, public interest law firm which litigates precedent-setting cases at the trial and appellate court levels; advocates for equitable public policies affecting the LGBT community; provides free legal assistance to LGBT people and their legal advocates; and conducts community education on LGBT legal issues.
If you are a victim of discrimination, you can start a lawsuit in state court or file a complaint with the New York State Division of Human Resources (DHR). You may hire an attorney to represent you at DHR, but it is not necessary and there is no filing fee for DHR complaints. You must file a DHR complaint within one year of the discriminatory act against you.
