The Canandaigua VA Medical Center provides an open, supportive and safe environment to meet the needs of LGBT Veterans and their families throughout the Finger Lakes and Western New York region. This includes Veterans receiving care from the Bath VA Medical Center and VA Western New York Healthcare System. Our program offers individual, family and couples therapy for LGBT Veterans and more.
The Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA) was formed to address the growing concerns of fair and equal treatment of transgender veterans and active duty service members. As the population of gender-different people increases, then so does the population of veterans and active duty service members who identify as such. TAVA serves as an educational organization that will help the Veterans Administration and the Department of Defense to better understand the individuals they encounter who identify as being gender-different. As veterans, we have also served proudly, and will continue to do so. TAVA is here to help where we can.
We are the people in the VA who welcome home veterans with honor by providing quality readjustment counseling in a caring manner, assisting veterans and their family members toward a successful post-war adjustment in or near their communities. Many of our staff are veterans and we value the experiences of all veterans we serve.
