Meet Alexis D. Tidwell, cast of “Beautiful! The Carole King Musical” at RBTL January 22 – 27

“Beautiful” is a rousing, lyrical journey through the life and times of Carole King, music icon. Few people can listen to the soundtrack of her life and works and not attach it to the significant moments in their lives the exact same way. January 22 – 27 that production will be making its way to the Rochester Broadway Theater League Auditorium Theater and Alexis D. Tidwell will be one of the enormous talents bringing it to life.

The Memphis native, grew up with a passion for music. With the rich musical history of Memphis, Tennessee, how could she not? Alexis saw herself living out her passion through Music Education. While pursuing her Master’s degree, she was given the opportunity to audition for a production of “The Wiz”. Alexis won the lead role of Dorothy and it changed her life forever. The director impressed upon her how incredibly talented she was and that the professional stage could indeed be her career. Tidwell took a leap of faith that continues to pay off as she stretches her wings production after production. To date, she has appeared in Dreamgirls, The Wiz, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Little Shop of Horrors, and now- Beautiful. She thanks her ability to transform into a variety of looks and age ranges to give her the opportunity to take on different roles and only pursues the ones that she truly believes in. Alexis has enjoyed her run in Beautiful for the story it tells. According to her, it is far from your typical “jukebox musical”. This is the story of a life of music, both Carole King the musician, and the less know Carole King the writer. Songs aren’t placed to simply enhance the narration, they are sewn into the tapestry of King’s life thus woven similarly into the stage adaptation of it. Alexis seeks to inspire and entertain each person she performs for. If they aspire to a life in theater, she encourages them to strive to be themselves, not her and if this life is truly one that they are committed to pursuing, that they do so relentlessly and never let go of their dreams. Someday soon Alexis D. Tidwell hopes to make her way to Broadway but in the meantime Rochester is graced with her “Beautiful” presence.
