Official Rochester Pride 2018 Opening Ceremonies draw over 150, despite hail storm just before

Yesterday’s Official Rochester, NY Pride Opening Ceremonies saw over 150 people gather outside City Hall for speeches, performances, and recognition of the Grand and Honorary Marshals of Rochester Pride 2018. The skies cleared just in time for the 60 foot Pride flag to be hoisted by Rochester Fire Department trucks on Church Street.
James Smith from the Mayor’s Office, Out Alliance Interim Executive Director Jeff Myers, Assemblymember Harry Bronson gave remarks. Sam Brett and Chloe Corcoran mc’ed the event as representatives of the Pride Executive Committee and Out Alliance Board of Directors, respectively. Performances from Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus and Dangerous Signs brought cheers from the crowd, as did the rousing speeches from Grand Marshal Peter Mohr and Honorary Marshals Arlisha Massey and Carlos Merriweather. City Councilmember Elaine Spaull and Brighton Town Supervisor Bill Moehle were also on hand to honor the occasion.
The late Congresswoman Louise Slaughter was remembered with a moment of silence.
