Sage Rochester

Enriching our community

SAGE Rochester is an affiliate of SAGE (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders) the world’s oldest & largest non-profit agency addressing the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender elders and has affiliates nationwide.

SAGE Rochester, a program of the Out Alliance, is a voice for Rochester’s older gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, queer, and intersex adults. We provide opportunities for personal growth, connection to community, and access to senior services.

We are open to all ages and members in the community, but our concentration is in educating, advocating, and serving the needs of the fifty-plus LGBTQ+ population.

As an affiliate of SAGE USA, we receive up-to-the-minute information on research and policy issues that effect older adults and have access to state and national resources.

Senior Programming

During the COVID-19 “Pause”

We value our SAGE members, and wish to protect their safety during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Until vaccines are widely available and the Center is once again open to the public, we have suspended all SAGE Group Gatherings.

After the COVID-19 “Pause”

Once we can all gather safely, SAGE will once again meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays to share Community meals and participate in scheduled programming including educational presentations, movies, games, crafts and field trips.

We also look forward to offering off-site seasonal programs including summer picnics, hayrides, dances, and museum tours in the second half of 2021.

SAGE National Network

In communities across the country, SAGENet- SAGE’s network of local affiliates, is building a movement to reduce isolation, improve financial security and enhance the quality of life for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) older adults.

Through SAGENet, these local leaders draw on the wisdom of their peers to implement programs and services that address the most urgent issues facing LGBTQ+ elders.

SAGENet is comprised of 27 affiliates located in 20 states around the country, across every region of the country. These affiliates provide services and programs to LGBTQ+ older people in their local communities. They also work on local, state, and federal advocacy to ensure that public policies better support the needs of LGBTQ+ elders.

We are proud to be an affiliate of this great organization. For more information on SAGE, please visit their website: www.sageusa.org.

Commencing in 2021, there is no membership cost to belong to SAGE or to have access to the new Empty Closet or the new SAGE Connections Newsletter or to borrow from our extensive Library collections.

However if you wish to make a financial contribution to support SAGE when our programming is once again available after the “COVID Pause” is over, we welcome your generosity.  Thank you for helping to widen our vision of choosing Community over isolation for LBGTQ+ seniors in Rochester in ever new and exciting ways.

We are always looking for volunteers and we need you. In fact, without your presence, we would not be able to continue our activities, outreach and advocacy. If you have some time and energy that you’d like to give to SAGE Rochester, please let us know. What could you do? Well, you can join our program committee or write a newsletter article, facilitate a workshop, or perhaps contribute your time to connect with homebound SAGE members each month via email, “snail mail” or telephone conversations.  Any of these offerings of your time and talent, deepens connection across the SAGE LBGTQ+ Community in Rochester.
