FAQ (under construction)

  • What are the future plans for the agency?

The Rochester Rainbow Union is returning to its roots as a volunteer, grassroots organization. Our two primary focuses will be operating our community resource center space and utilizing our LGBTQIA+ library collection, which is the largest of its kind in New York state.

  • How will you build trust with the community?

We are intentionally emphasizing transparency and diverse representation as we build this agency. We are preparing to launch a Community Advisory Committee, and welcome public attendance at our board meetings. We continue to build our board to better reflect the entirety of Rochester’s LGBTQIA+ identities. We aim to uplift Rochester’s agencies, organizations, and programs in collaboration.

  • Are you financially sustainable?

The agency is returning to a grassroots model; we are a leaner organization. Our current largest expense is rent. As part of our fundraising, we have a commitment to serve as stewards of your donations.

We invite community members to join our financial oversight committees to ensure we continue as a sustainable organization.

  • Who does the Rainbow Union serve?

The new board members of this agency are intentionally building new agency which serves the entirety of Rochester’s LGBTQIA+ communities. We recognize that historically, the GAGV and Out Alliance have not lived up to their full potential, we are focused on serving everyone equitably.

  • Why did you change your name?

We recognize that this agency will look very different than the old Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley and the Out Alliance. We changed the name to reflect a new path forward, while not forgetting the past.

  • Who can I talk to?

Our board members are always available to talk. We invite you to attend one of our meetings. To find out when they are held, please email info@outalliance.org
